Alex Wilkie signs on loan

Published: at 7:00pm

Defender Alex Wilkie joins the club on loan for the remainder of the season.

Alex joins the club on loan from Championship side Queens Park Rangers. The young centre-half joined The R’s in the Summer from National League side Eastleigh, following a successful trial with their Development Squad. Wilkie has already made a First Team appearance for QPR this season as he played the full match in their 3-2 defeat away at League One side Plymouth Argyle in the EFL Cup. Along with that he scored in QPR’s 3-1 win against Brentford in the Premier League Cup.

The 19-year-old, does have previous experience at this level as he went on loan to fellow National League South side, Hampton & Richmond where he would make six appearances for The Beavers, playing 90 minutes in all but one fixture.

Last season, Wilkie joined then Southern League Premier South side Winchester City on loan from Eastleigh and gained further experience in senior men’s football, where he would play 44 times in all competitions and scored once. That goal came in The Citizens’ 3-1 defeat at home to Havant & Waterlooville.

Prior to that, the central defender was at Cheltenham Town where he signed a two-year scholarship. During his time with The Robins he would go on a season long loan with Hellenic Premier League side, Fairford Town, where he would go on to win their Young Player Of The Year award.

Alex is signed and available to link up with the squad for this weekend’s game against Chelmsford City and will wear the number 34!
