Bluebirds sign Luke Spokes

Published: at 1:30pm

Midfielders former clubs include Grimsby Town, Spennymoor Town and Mangotsfield United.

Chippenham Town FC are delighted to announce, subject to clearance, the signing of 22-year-old central midfielder, Luke Spokes following his departure from Bath City.

Bristol born Spokes cut his teeth in football with Mangotsfield United and Yate Town before moving to Taunton Town in the Southern Premier League.

After impressing at the Peacocks, Spokesy was picked up by Ian Holloway at Grimsby Town in the National League, making 17 appearances for the Mariners, scoring 1 goal. A couple of loan spells at Spennymoor Town and Boston United saw Spokes picking up valuable experience before departing for Bath City in 2022.

We caught up with Spokesy to hear what he had to say on signing for the Bluebirds.

I am really happy to get this sorted, I am looking forward to a great year with this great club and cannot wait to get going in front of the fans. I’m described as a bit of a box to box midfielder, combative and hard-working, and love to get on the ball and create. I scored 2 and assisted 8 last season, and I am really hoping to build on that with Chippenham this season. Hard work is a non-negotiable with my game and I cannot wait to get out there and do everything I can do to help this team win games and achieve its goals this season

Manager Gary Horgan had this to say on bringing Luke Spokes to the club:

Delighted! We tried to get Luke at the start of last season but having our season extended by our involvement in the play-offs meant that he had already signed somewhere else. When we knew of his availability this year, he was a priority for us. He has great technical ability, a fantastic range of passing and the physical attributes to be a top National League South player in any of the midfield areas!

We are looking forward to working with Luke and we are excited to see what we can achieve together

Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to Chippenham, Luke Spokes!
