Chippenham Town sign Freddie Grant

Grant last played for Farnborough in the National League South

Chippenham Town FC are delighted to announce, subject to clearance, the signing of Freddie Grant following his departure from Farnborough.

The 26-year-old came through the academy at Oxford United before spending two years at Oxford City. Spells at Wealdstone and Maidenhead followed before Grant joined Bath City. Some might remember Freddie scoring the equalising goal in a 1-1 Boxing Day draw against his now employers, taking a big clout from Will Puddy despite winning a logic defying header! Grant then spent a short spell at Slough before playing 35 games for Farnborough last season, scoring 2 goals and helping the Boro finish just outside the play-offs.

Manager Gary Horgan had this to say about the acquisition of Grant

Freddie is one of the best attacking full backs at the level and we’re really pleased he has decided to join.

He brings good energy and delivery from wide areas and will provide much needed balance on the left. Although still only 26, he brings a wealth of experience, which will be invaluable to our young and new group. Welcome to the club Freddie!

We caught up with the new man at his day job to get his thoughts on signing for the Bluebirds.

Like the badge says I’ve got pride and passion. Experienced defender with a spring in my step and unlimited engine on and off the pitch. When Horgs called I wanted to work under him straight away. Everyone says great things about him and the way he and his back room staff got Chippenham playing back end of the season was very impressive.

So, another piece of the puzzle added for Gary Horgan and his men! Welcome to the Bluebirds, Freddie Grant!
