CTFC’s Academy Copa Catalunya 2025 Day Two Recap
Copa Catalunya Heats Up as CTFC-1 March On and CTFC-2 Fight to the Final Whistle
Day Two of the Copa Catalunya delivered drama, dominance, and decisive moments as the group stages came to a thrilling conclusion.
The day kicked off in emphatic fashion with CTFC-1 taking on TG Bockingen. The Bluebirds flew out of the traps, with Mateusz Tos opening the scoring in the 11th minute with a towering header. Just three minutes later, George Cook doubled the lead with a sublime lob over the keeper, showcasing CTFC-1’s early intent.
Before the break, Theo Corbin almost added a third with a thunderous strike that cannoned off the bar, leaving the halftime score at 2-0. The second half brought more flair, as Cook turned provider, teeing up William Banfield for a clinical third. Moments later, captain Lewis Royston put the result beyond doubt, rifling home a sensational long-range strike into the top corner to seal a 4-0 win.

Next up, CTFC-2 faced FV 1912 Wiesental-1 and made a strong start. Selig Kambote etched his name into the scoresheet with CTFC-2’s first goal of the tournament, slotting home after a swift counterattack.
The match remained tightly contested, with goalkeeper Jack Amor making a vital save late in the half to preserve the 1-0 lead at the break. Max Spencer came closest to doubling the advantage in the second half with a fierce long-range effort, but a superb save denied him. Kambote’s early strike proved enough, earning CTFC-2 a hard-fought and well-deserved victory.
The third match of the day saw CTFC-1 return to the pitch against TSV Rheinhausen, needing just a point to top Group D. Once again, it was George Cook who provided the early breakthrough, firing in his third goal of the day in the 8th minute.
In the second half, defender Finley Palmer smashed home from a corner before Ed Taylor’s shot took a wicked deflection for an own goal, sealing a dominant 3-0 win. With that, CTFC-1 not only finished the group stage unbeaten but also claimed top spot and a place in the 1st–4th place playoffs.
For CTFC-2, the afternoon brought a high-stakes clash with TV Zuffenhausen. The German side struck early, netting in just the 4th minute to apply immediate pressure. Despite chances at both ends and rising tension on the pitch, the Bluebirds found a lifeline late in the game.
Captain Todd Howitt took matters into his own hands, hammering home the equaliser after a frantic goalmouth scramble. But just as it looked like a point would be enough to secure second in the group, heartbreak struck. TV Zuffenhausen found a dramatic late winner in the dying seconds, consigning CTFC-2 to a 2-1 defeat and bottom spot in the group.

As the dust settles, all eyes turn to the final day. CTFC-1 march into the semi-finals with confidence, set to face SV Eversbach 1910 in a high-stakes showdown. For CTFC-2, it’s about finishing strong – a clash with GSV Pleidelsheim awaits, with a chance to battle for 13th place on the line.
Good luck to both teams on day 3! You have done us proud, now go and wrap it up! 💙
