MATCH REPORT: Ebbsfleet United 1-0 Chippenham Town (after extra-time) – National League South Play-off semi final – Sun 15th May 2022

Published: at 4:43pm

A second bout of extra time in four days proved just too far for the Bluebirds who put in a valiant effort against their full time opponents as they fell to a single goal defeat in extra time.

Ebbsfleet had the ball in the net on ten minutes but Shaq Coulthirst’s effort was ruled out for off side in the build-up.

A minute later at the other end Joe Hanks’ twenty five yard shot was just off target.

On the quarter hour mark Jordan Young’s corner was cleared for a second corner taken by Hanks but the ball was cleared.

Midway through the half Coulthirst crossed to Dominic Poleon whose shot was blocked by Kieran Parselle at the expense of a corner which was quickly followed by a further two fruitless flag-kicks.

On twenty four minutes Alfie Santos skied his shot well over.

Three minutes later Rakish Bingham’s shot went straight to Will Henry.

On thirty seven minutes Jack Paxman and Poleon played a one two and the former netted but again the effort was ruled out for off side.

On forty one minutes Christian N’Guessan went down on the edge of the area after a tackle by Spencer Hamilton but appeals for a penalty were ignored.

Seven minutes after the break Bingham’s run ended with him firing over the bar.

On fifty four minutes good play involving Mo Dabre, Young and Hanks ended in an off side decision.

Good work by Santos saw Hanks’ shot deflect off N’Guessan and just wide of a post.

On seventy two minutes N’Guessan fired over.

Ten minutes later Danny Greenslade’s shot from distance was high.

On ninety minutes substitute Alfie Egan’s shot was blocked and the game went into extra time.

On ninety four minutes Henry saved an effort from Sido Jombati.

On ninety seven minutes good work from Poleon saw him flick the ball to Paxman who found former Manchester United player Lee Martin and the substitute scored the all important goal.

A minute before the break substitute Caine Bradbury appeared to be pulled back by Jombati in the area but no penalty was awarded.

On one hundred and nine minutes Henry spilled a shot from Bingham but was able to grab the loose ball.

A minute later Martin’s audacious lob hit the bar and was held by Henry.

On one hundred and thirteen minutes a Chippenham corner saw substitute Noah Coppin’s shot blocked and Hanks fired the loose ball over.
