Golf Day for the Players!

Published: at 12:08pm

It was golf day at Chippenham Golf Club for our Bluebirds.

The players and staff of Chippenham Town FC were ‘Swingin’ in the Rain on Tuesday as they swapped the Blue for the ‘Green’, the Horgan Ball for ‘Four Ball’ to celebrate their fantastic start to the season and a successful Bank Holiday Weekend which saw them take a point on the road against Braintree and backed that up with a victory on home soil against Slough Town.

The boys had been long overdue their social day and finally got a chance to further their friend’chips’ off the ‘pitch’’ with a day of Golf at Chippenham Golf Club. They hit the ‘Fairway to Heaven’ nice and early and Chippenham fans would have seen across various players’ social media accounts throughout the day, there were varied levels of skill on show from the sublime to the absolutely should stick to football!

We caught up with Chippenham skipper, Matt McClure who was in a ‘chipper’ move after spending time with his teammates even if for him, it was a long ‘drive’ (and I promise I won’t do that anymore).

Simon – Matt, a great weekend for you and the boys over Bank Holiday and now a day of Golf with your teammates. How are the lads feeling after Tuesday’s little bonding session?

Matty – Yeah a great weekend and the boys are all in good spirits after such a solid Bank Holiday weekend which we managed to follow up with a Golf Day at Chippenham Golf Course who we would just like to take a moment to thank for having us. We all had a great time, even if the gold was indifferent.

Simon – Excellent stuff, a great weekend for the boys and sounds like a good day as well. However, we are all dying to know. Who was the best golfer and who won the day?

Matty – Well, we had a couple of dark horses to be fair. Spokesy and Will Henry who ‘coincidentally’ both happened to be on my team so we ran out victorious on the day.

Simon – And probably more interestingly, who was the worst golfer amongst the lads?

Matty – Not going to lie, there were a few bad players. Some of the boys haven’t played before or played as much as some of us which I personally think is testament and speaks volumes about the spirit we have in the group! For them to spend five hours in the rain just to be around the boys is absolutely great. I won’t throw anyone under the bus and choose a ‘worst’ but Owen (Windsor) teed up every single shot he took, even when he was in the bunker!

Simon – And Matty, as fans we only really see you together on Saturday afternoon. How important are these kinds of things to unite a squad and foster the togetherness within the group?

Matty – It’s absolutely vital to have great team chemistry both on and off the pitch and events like this definitely bring the boys together and create a close-knit squad of players and staff. That can carry you a long way when you step across the white line on a match day and we are already looking forward to getting back out on the pitch (and the golf course)

Simon – Excellent, we will see you on Saturday and all the very best of luck for the weekend away at Dover!

With 3 wins, 2 defeats and 1 draw to their names already in the National League South. Chippenham will be hoping for an above ‘par’ performance on Saturday when the Bluebirds return to the pitch against Dover Athletic, we hope to see you there!

Huge thanks from all of us at CTFC to our friends at Chippenham Golf Course for their hospitality and use of the course! See you again soon!
