MATCH PREVIEW: Chesham United vs Chippenham Town | National League South | Saturday 1st November

Published: at 7:00pm

November brings a visit to Buckinghamshire, with Nathan Potter previewing our trip.

Remember remember the 1st of November, because you should be making the journey to Chesham to support the Bluebirds! November brings seven league matches, as well the start of the Isuzu FA Trophy, where we host Weston-super-Mare.

Our full focus shifts to the first match, in National League South action as we face 11th place Chesham United.

The opposition

Chesham United were born in 1917 as a merge of Chesham Generals and Chesham Town, with Chesham Generals playing in the Spartan League from 1909/10 until 1913/14. For Chesham Town they played in the Southern league from 1899 until 1904 where they chose to leave the competition until 1908 where they re-joined before they left once more in 1912 to become founding members of the Athenian League.

During the clubs 108 years they have mainly found themselves mainly at step three and four. They won promotion to the Southern Premier League in the 2009-2010 where they beat Slough Town 4-0 in the Division One Midlands play-off final.

Once they won promotion back to step three following their relegation in 2002/03 season, they reached the play-offs on three separate occasions but the final just once, losing to St Albans City. In 2024 they were finally able to achieve the illustrious promotion they were looking for when they won the Southern League with 90 points.

Last season they enjoyed a successful campaign where they finished midtable in 13th place and recorded their best ever finish along the way. Over the summer their squad saw big changes with 10 new arrivals and nine departures. One of those signings being former Chippenham Town captain Matt McClure who spent two and a half years with the Bluebirds. So far this season they have enjoyed a decent campaign as they find themselves 11th after 14 games just two points outside the play-off places.

Dangermen

Nathan Minhas- The Centre-forward is going to be one to watch out for on Saturday with the 28-year-old being the club’s league top goal scorer so far this season and the sole scorer in The Generals important victory against promotion chasing Torquay United. Minhas joined Chesham ahead of the 2024/25 season from Slough Town and went on to score 13 goals in 36 league games for them.

Alex Babos – The central midfielder joined Chesham United ahead of the 2025/26 season having enjoyed a two year spell with Hereford where he netted on 15 occasions for them across his two year stay at Edgar Street and helped guide the to consecutive midtable finishes.

Fixture History

Our first meeting with Chesham came in 2004, Chesham’s first season in the Southern League, and the Generals ran out 3-2 victors at Hardenhuish Park. We would win three on the spin against Chesham in 2005 + 2006, before Chesham’s relegation in 2005/06.

We would meet again in 2010, as Chesham turned the fixture history on it’s head with a 2-0 win at The Meadow. Our battles continued until our promotion in 2017, as we would win six times in that Southern League spell, with the last victory being 3-1 during our record-breaking title run in 2017. Goals from Dave Pratt, Will Richards and a Jake Andrews penalty secured us the win.

Since Chesham’s promotion in 2023/24 we have faced them three times,. The first being a 3-1 for Chesham at Meadow Park in the league with another trip for us just five weeks later in the FA Trophy in which we lost 2-0. Our most recent meeting came in February 2025, as an early Tom Mehew goal and a simple goal for Harry Parsons secured us a comfortable victory,
