MATCH PREVIEW: Chippenham Town vs AFC Totton | National League South | Monday 6th April 2026

Published: at 3:00pm

CTFC host AFC Totton in our penultimate home league match of the season.

Easter Monday brings the visit of AFC Totton, as CTFC close in on the final quartet of league fixtures. Following our defeat at Bath on Friday, this match takes shape as a ‘must win’.

The Opposition

AFC Totton came into existence due to the amalgamation of Totton FC and Totton Athletic in 1974/75 and started life in Hampshire League Division Two which is where they stayed until 1979/80. That season they finished 2nd behind Horndean, of which was then Step 4 Non-league.

This success followed for the next few years as in 1981/82 they won six trophies in one season, including the Hampshire League Division One title, which was an incredible feat for the team managed by Trevor Parker. This success continued throughout the decade until 1989/90, where they did not win another trophy until 2002/03 in which they won the Wessex League Cup against Eastleigh and again in 2005/06 against Andover.

Totton seemed to be building a good side in the noughties with them reaching the FA Vase cup final at Wembley in which they came out as losers against Truro City in a game which seen a record crowd of 36,232. In the same season they were pipped to the Wessex Premier League Title by Gosport Borough by only a single goal.

Recent history has included a 1st play-off journey in 2023/24 in which they made it to the final where the lost in harsh fashion to Salisbury , with their goalkeeper missing a penalty after taking in the first five in the shootout.

However, they would finally see success in the play-offs last season after beating Gloucester in the final 1-0, finally getting promoted to the NLS, which they lie 13th currently.

AFC Totton had an impressive start to their first campaign in the National League South winning four of their first six matches with their two defeats against Maidstone and Torquay.

Totton’s good run of form continued to go into late October with six wins in all competitions including National League side Truro City away from home winning 5-3 on penalties despite being a man short since the 45 minute. Their impressive run of form also included beating a confident Weston-Super-Mare side 3-1, resulting in the Seagulls first defeat since the opening game of the season. After The Stags’ 2-1 win against Chelmsford they then hit a big dip in form losing eight of their next 12 in all competitions including a 6-3 defeat in the FA Cup first round against Macclesfield.

Some other defeats in this period included a 4-0 loss away at Worthing, 5-0 at home to Dagenham and Redbridge with Andy Carroll scoring a first half hattrick for the Daggers.

In more recent times, Totton have had a massive backlog of fixtures after five straight games being postponed. The Stags have only won one of their last six games, while struggling to put the ball in the back of the net as they have only scored four in their last six and conceded 11.

Like us, Totton have struggled on their travels this season winning only five out of 21 games with 14 defeats.

Fixture History

The two sides have met seven times with the first meeting coming in the 2011/12 Southern Premier League season where The Bluebirds ran out 2-1 winners at home with the return fixture finishing 1-1. Over the seven games that the sides have played against each other, the results are evenly split with two wins each and three draws.

Our most recent fixture was away to The Stags where Luke Haines scored an equaliser 15 minutes from full time grabbing Chippenham a point on the road as the game finished 1-1.

Dangermen

Tony Lee – The 30 year old striker is looking to extend his goal tally on Easter Monday, he has found the back of the net 14 times this season while also assisting six. The forward also scored against The Bluebirds earlier on in the campaign at The Snows Stadium.
Ashley Clarke – The tricky winger is on loan at Totton from Premier League side AFC Bournemouth. The 20 year is their playmaker this season finding eight assists with seven goals.
