Jamie Oleszynski previews our home game against Eastbourne Borough.

Chippenham Town will be looking to record six consecutive league victories and stretch their unbeaten run to 12 when they host Eastbourne Borough on Saturday.

With a win and results in their favour, the Bluebirds can go 11 points clear of the relegation zone, less than three weeks after they sat in 21st place.

Last Time Out

In front of a crowd of 679 Chippenham recorded a dramatic victory against relegation strugglers Weymouth. Weymouth twice led but were pegged back with a Joe Hanks ‘Olympico’, and Caine Bradbury. Deep into stoppage time a penalty was awarded to Chippenham, which Owen Windsor converted to extend their winning run.

The Opposition

Eastbourne Borough are a side that have been a surprise package in recent years. Like Chippenham, the Sports made it to the play-offs last season and have failed to push on any further from last campaign. Eastbourne have flirted with the top seven as recently as early January, but with poor form this side of Christmas, they have fallen to 11th.

When Chippenham travelled to East Sussex in December, they were winless in eight league matches, and fresh off of the back of their FA Cup escapades to Burton Albion. Eastbourne’s Shiloh Remy scored in the final moments of both halves to cancel out Alex Bray’s early opener.

One to Watch

The aforementioned Remy has been one of the brightest lights for the Sports, scoring 11 goals in the league campaign this season. This is Remy’s first season for the East Sussex side, having joined from QPR in July. Remy is a box-to-box central midfielder who can do plenty in both boxes. Keeping Remy quiet will get the Bluebirds a long way towards getting something from the game.

Horgan’s Thoughts

Manager Gary Horgan has predicted that Eastbourne will provide a tough test, but has claimed that his side are hungry for revenge after the defeat to the Sports in December. He also said that his team are hungry to keep their run of consecutive wins and the unbeaten streak alive.

Team News

There is good news on the medical front with regard to Sam Heal, who is in line to return to training with the squad this coming Saturday. Luckily for the Bluebirds, none of their team were victims of injuries in the Weymouth fixture, so Horgan will have a plethora of options to chose from compared to recent weeks.
