Ben Hennessey previews the visit of Enfield Town

This Saturday The Bluebirds take on newly promoted Enfield Town as we hope to make it four unbeaten on the bounce.

Last time out Chippenham had the long trip to Essex where they faced Chelmsford City for some bank holiday action. The game started fast with both sides having opportunities denied by excellent goalkeeping from both Will Henry and Chelmsford shot-stopper Ted Collins. After a period of Chippenham pressure Matt McClure broke the deadlock on the 36th minute. Nat Williams played a well-placed pass to Tyreke Johnson who found the ball on the edge of the box. McClure with a quick turn slipped his man and fired into the corner of the net. With the pressure firmly on Chelmsford they upped the tempo looking to bring the game level. 7 minutes from time, Parsons found himself on the receiving end of a lofted pass where he smartly slipped the ball past the keeper giving himself an open net to aim at, however when he played the shot the Chelmsford centre back got a boot in the way and sent the shot wide. The ball was played back into the Chippenham half, Greenidge was played one versus one against Will Henry and equalised the game with a debut strike just hours after being confirmed as a Claret. Greenidge would then hit the crossbar from point-blank-range in stoppage time, ending the game in a disappointing draw for both sides.

The Opposition

Enfield Town, known as ‘The Towners’, are playing their first season in the National League South after getting promoted in a 3-0 victory against Chatham Town in the Isthmian Premier Division Playoffs last term. They were founded in 2001 after splitting away from former side Enfield FC and became the first fully fan-owned footbal club in the country.

They play their home games at The Queen Elizabeth II Stadium which they moved to in November 2011. Enfield Town will be looking to turn their form around after only securing 3 points in their last five games coming from a 1-0 win against Western-super-Mare. This will be our first ever match against Enfield Town.

One to watch

Sam Youngs is this week’s player to watch. A mainstay of Enfield, Youngs is approaching 300 appearances for the club. Last season Youngs racked up 31 goals and 11 assists in 52 games.
