MATCH PREVIEW: Chippenham Town vs Oxford City | National League South, Monday 18th April 2022

Published: at 3:46pm

Matt Chappell previews our upcoming clash with “The Hoops” on Easter Monday.

The games are coming thick and fast in the 2021/22 National League South campaign, and the #Bluebirds’s attention now turns to Easter Monday, when they welcome Oxford City Football Club to #TheTSStadium in a massive game for the club, and a must win!

Chippenham will be looking to get 3 points on the board, and have one final push to occupy the last play-off spot, but this will be a tough game as our visitors, come into this game having been in the play-off spots for the past few months and have managed to maintain their place.

Our last game fell to a 3-0 defeat against high-flying Dorking Wanderers, with goals from Jason Prior and a brace from James McShane being just too much for the #Bluebirds to handle, but there was praise from Interim Manager Gary Horgan in the Post-Match reaction on YouTube, for Chippenham’s opportunities in the second half. “We gave them a bit too much respect in the first half, we absolutely had the most of it in the second half, with at least 12 chances, you have to beat the best teams to get promoted”.

Oxford City have kept their Play-off ambitions alive in the past few games, winning 2-0 against Dulwich Hamlet and 1-0 most recently against Hungerford Town, who we will face in a few weeks time, and this will be very pleasing for manager Justin Merritt. The #Bluebirds will be very aware of Joe Iaciofano, and what he can bring onto the pitch, the 23 year old striker has been ruthless this season for Oxford, bagging 18 goals in 34 games, a stat which will surely see him battling for this season’s Golden Boot award. Also be aware of central-midfielder Josh Ashby, who has scored 8 goals this season.
