MATCH PREVIEW: Chippenham Town vs Tonbridge Angels – National League South, Tue 18th Jan 2022

Published: at 10:19pm

Matt Chappell previews the upcoming National League South game between Chippenham Town and Tonbridge Angels.

The Bluebirds are under the glorious lights of #TheTSStadium this Tuesday evening, as they look to continue their run of form against Tonbridge Angels, in what will be another entertaining fixture in the National League South.

Chippenham come into this game off the back of a sensational 6-1 victory over Slough Town from the 8th of January, with Jordan Young and Ricky Aguiar both bagging a brace along with Luke Russe and Joe Hanks each getting a goal for their tally. Mike Cook mentioned the fact that Chippenham won the game with a bit of class and were very resilient to get back to winning ways following the defeats to Bath from last year.

The game saw the debuts of forward Jordan Young and defender Harrison Minturn who both joined the club on 1-month loans from Gloucester City and Swindon Town respectively, Jordan quite clearly knuckled down and got into work, bagging what could easily be described, as the “Best Goal of 2022… so far…” as he smashed it home into the top corner following good possession play from the Bluebirds. Harrison looked very sharp, playing a full 90 minutes alongside the skipper and got to be said, he did so well to thwart any real dangerous attacks against Slough, and he will definitely a player to watch in the coming weeks.

Tonbridge Angels currently find themselves 19th in the National League South table, coming of two defeats at the hands of Maidstone United in the Christmas period, but if we are going to talk about their Domestic cup run, and they have definitely been the talking point. Reaching the 5th Round of this season’s FA Trophy and setting up a home tie against National League Premier side Bromley following a victory against King’s Lynn Town in the previous round, finishing the game 1-1 and eventually winning on penalties.

Steve McKimm has been in-charge of the Angels since 2014, and has guided them to the National League South for the 2019/20 season, and prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. He has guided the side to a comfortable mid-table finish.

Both sides have met on plenty of occasions in the past few seasons, with the visitors winning 4-0 against the Bluebirds on a Tuesday night back in 2021, before the season was curtailed due to the pandemic.
