MATCH PREVIEW: Chippenham Town vs Weston-super-Mare | Emirates FA Cup 3rd Qualifying Round | Saturday 28th September 2024
Harry Minton previews our home game against Weston-super-Mare
Attention turns back to the FA Cup this weekend, as the Bluebirds have made it to the third qualifying round and have a tough challenge against fellow league opposition in Weston-super-Mare.
Previous Round
Weston would take down seventh-tier Wimborne Town 2-0 away from home in the last round, with the goals coming from Luke Coulson and former Chippenham player Nick McCootie.
Meanwhile we would dispatch ninth-tier side Nailsea and Tickenham 6-1 away from home. Harry Parsons’ hattrick and goals from Caine Bradbury, Tom Mehew and Tyreke Johnson wrapped up the win.
Recent Encounters & Form
The Seagulls are flying so far this season, unbeaten since Matchday Two and currently sitting fourth .It was a 1-1 draw last time out for them at home to a solid Dorking Wanderers side.
Meanwhile we suffered just our second defeat in eight games in all competitions, losing 3-2 last time out in the Wiltshire derby against Salisbury.
Chippenham have struggled to beat the Seagulls at home in recent years, with the last win for us at Hardenhuish Park coming back in 2018. A 2-0 win thanks to goals from Andy Sandell and Mike Jones claimed all three points for the Bluebirds that day.
The most recent outing at the TS Stadium ended in a 1-0 win for the visitors with a goal from Rex Mannings clinching the points for Weston. Of course now, Rex Mannings is a Chippenham player and he’ll be looking to haunt his former side. Alex Bray and Nat Williams will be looking to have good games against their former sides as well.
One to Watch
For the visitors, the threat that we will highlight is Luke Coulson, the striker has scored six goals in all competitions so far this season with five of those goals coming in the League, making him the joint second top scorer in the league. He was signed in the summer from freshly relegated Dartford with Coulson netting eleven times in all competitions for the Darts last season.
