MATCH PREVIEW: Concord Rangers vs Chippenham Town | National League South, Sat 29th Oct 2022

Published: at 12:00pm

Matt Chappell previews our upcoming National League South clash with Concord Rangers.

It’s another away-day for The Bluebirds this weekend as we make the trip to Canvey Island, taking on Concord Rangers on match day 16 of the 2022/23 National League South season.

Last Time Out

The Bluebirds will be looking to bounce back from Tuesday, when Gary Horgan’s side fell to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Hemel Hempstead Town, with Kory Roberts scoring with a headed effort in the 94th minute, to take all three points for the visiting side. Chippenham will be very gutted with the result, after controlling the game and creating plenty of chances with mostly Harvey Greenslade and Alex Bray most notably creating goal-scoring opportunities.

Prior to the game, Gary Horgan had to contend with four players being out due to illness with Spencer Hamilton, Joe Hanks, Joe Parker and Eddie Jones all out with flu-like symptoms, however he responded with adding four Academy players to step-up and be included in the match day squad. Leighton Tuodolo, Harlee Vozza, Ethan Witchell and Zak Mitchell were all included and many Chippenham Town supporters will be impressed with Leighton Tuodolo especially who created plenty of opportunities with his burst of pace down the wings, picking up the player of the match award for his exceptional performance.

Gary mentioned in the post-match interview of his stand out performance, but also mentioned Tom Mehew and Callum Gunner who also stood out with performing well despite the result. Mehew down the middle and Gunner having to adapt as a right back.

The Opposition

Concord Rangers come into this game currently sat in 21st place and in the first place of the relegation zone at the time of writing and have gone through a lot of changes in the past few weeks, Chris Search departed the club after a few seasons in-charge and being a popular figure at the club, and Rob Small coming into steer the Beach Boys away from the drop. They most recently won 3-0 against Dover Athletic this past Tuesday with goals from Ryan Blackman, Nana Kyei and Aron Pollock all scoring for Concord.

There will be plenty of players to watch with Ricky Modeste, Ben Williamson and Nana Kyei being the most ones to keep an eye for on Saturday, in the 11th meeting between the sides, in the last ten meetings between the sides, Chippenham have come away with five wins, our hosts on Saturday with three and two draws between the sides. Our most recent meeting was back in February 2022, when Jordan Young’s 35+ yard lob in the 87th minute secured the Bluebirds the three points.

It promises to be another big clash for the two sides, as they look to bounce back up the table, and we hope to see you all there.
