MATCH PREVIEW: Mangotsfield vs Chippenham Town | Club Friendly Match | Saturday 28th June 2025
Declan Wright previews the opening of the 2025-26 campaign
After a long two months away from football, we kick off our strong pre-season schedule with a trip to Bristol when we face off against Mangotsfield United. The match will be played on the 28th of June 2025 and will be played at Cossham Street Stadium (BS16 9EN).
About Mangotstfield
Mangotsfield United otherwise known as The Field or The Mangos was founded in 1951 after Mangotsfield FC closed its reserve team. Their home ground is Cossham Street Stadium and has a capacity of 2500, of which 300 are seated. Last season Mangotsfield played their football in the Hellenic League Premier Division where they finished in fourth place, in the play-off places. Unfortunately for The Mangos they suffered a defeat in the play off semifinal against the eventually promoted Sporting Club Inkberrow, losing the game 3-0 away from home.
Mangotsfield are managed by Glyn Ashton who has been at the club since February 2020 after the sudden departure of their former manager. Gllyn Ashtom was at Mangotsfield before becoming the first team manager as he was manager of the youth team setup. When he was first in charge, he had to rely on the youth setup due to a difficult situation in not having many senior players in the squad. Since then then they have importantly been relegated from the Southern League Division One South in the 2021-22 season, but he has led them to winning the Hellenic league Floodlit Cup in 2022-2023 season.
Recent Meetings
Recent history between the two sides is sparce, with many of the competitive meetings coming in the early stages of the FA Cup.
The most recent was a 3-1 win for Chippenham in 2012, in which season our cup run ended in controversy at Gloucester City.
Just the season before, there would be two matches between the Mangos and CTFC, as a replay was needed to confirm our place in the third qualification round of the FA Trophy, in which we would bow out at Weymouth in the first round.
Our most unceremonious performance against Mangotsfield came in the 1996-97 season in the FA Cup preliminary round, as we lost by six goals to one. With the recent additions of Ezio Touray, Reece Fleet and Canice Carroll this pre-season friendly will be a good chance for you Bluebirds fans to see what they’re about and for them to show the quality going into the season. This friendly also allows fans to watch both the first team players that we have retained plus the academy players that could have the potential to make the step up during the 2025-2026 season.
So please if you can come down to Cossham Street Stadium on Saturday 28th June and support the lads in what will be the first game in our journey for the 2025/26 season.
