MATCH PREVIEW: St. Albans City vs Chippenham Town | National League South | Saturday 23rd November 2024
Harry Minton previews our trip to St. Albans
League action returns this weekend for the Bluebirds as we travel to Clarence Park to face St Albans City.
Both teams will be looking for a reaction this weekend after getting knocked out of the FA Trophy, Gary Horgan’s boys tasting defeat away to Chesham United for the second time this season, meanwhile the Saints were upset by seventh tier side Basford United at home as they lost 2-1.
This match of course means a lot to both sides, however it is huge for the hosts who are looking to pull away from the bottom four, as they are unbeaten in their last four league games with three draws and a win against Bath City at home 3-2, which is their only win at home so far this season in the league.
The Saints go into this game manager-less, with David Noble departing on Thursday 21st of November, by mutual consent. Their Director of Football will be in charge for Saturday’s clash. Noble first joined St Albans in 2016 playing 123 times in six seasons and would become the Head Coach in November of 2022. In that time he would guide the Saints to a playoff finish and the Sound Round of the FA Cup. In January 2024, Noble left to join Wealdstone, a division higher, but would re-join St Albans following just 73 days with the Stones.
Our boys in blue will go there with confidence however, not only coming off the back of a three game unbeaten run in the league, but we also do have a decent record at Clarence Park, having only lost twice there in the last seven meetings.
Two of the Saints’ forwards, Ken Charles and Shaun Jeffers will be ones to watch out for our Bluebirds, as they have a decent record of scoring against our boys. Jeffers has previously scored three goals past us across many different games for St Albans, meanwhile Charles scored a hat trick once against the Wiltshire outfit for Cheshunt as his side won 3-2.
No game comes easy in the league, but hopefully we can go there and continue our decent run. Come on you Bluebirds!!!
