Jamie Oleszynski previews our pre-season friendly game away at Swindon Supermarine.

Chippenham Town will be back into pre-season action as we travel to Swindon Supermarine on Tuesday 18th July.

Chippenham have just seen off two games this weekend, with a 2-2 draw against Cribbs on Friday night, and a 3-2 defeat against Hungerford on Saturday.

Our opponents have played three friendlies so far this season, losing against league opposition in the form of Swindon Town and Cheltenham Town, and a 2-0 victory against Bishops Cleeve.

Swindon Supermarine finished 6th place in the 2022/23 Southern League Premier South Division, narrowly missing out by two points off the play-offs. In their 42 games played, they won 23, drew eight and lost 11 finishing on 77 points.

Notable players include former Chippenham forward Ryan Campbell who appeared 195 times with 39 goals and Henry Spalding who appeared 153 times for Supermarine with 39 goals scored. Fan favourite Will Henry also made 15 appearances for the Marine in a loan spell from Swindon Town in 2018/19.

Gary Horgan said he was “really pleased” with the performance of the youthful side that drew away to Cribbs on Friday night. Horgan mentioned the performance of Otis Lewis and goalkeeper Joel Manning in particular, and they will be likely to travel to Swindon to face the Southern League side.

On a final positive note, Pablo Martinez played 45 minutes in the Friday night clash in his return. Horgan said “He’s come back fully fit and strong, and we’ve forgotten what a good player we’ve got”, so remain optimistic for the season to come Bluebirds!
