MATCH REPORT: Bromley 1-1 Chippenham Town (4-2 pens) | FA Trophy Fourth Round | Saturday 13th January 2024

Published: at 1:30pm

Chippenham’s longest ever venture into the FA Trophy came to an end in Kent against Bromley as they valiantly bowed out 4-2 on penalties, at the time Bromley were second in the National League.

A cagey opening didn’t see the first effort on goal until the thirteenth minute when Bromley’s Jude Arthurs long range shot was high.

Four minutes later Bromley took the lead as Arthurs found Michael Cheek who flicked on for Ben Krauhaus to open the scoring.

On twenty five minutes Myles Weston’s half-volley went wide of Will Henry’s goal.

On thirty seven minutes Josh Passley’s cross was headed over by Cheek.

A minute later Will King had Chippenham’s first chance after being set up by Craig Fasanmade but his shot sailed over. Five minutes before the break Cheek rounded Henry but he was at too narrow an angle to take advantage.

In the fourth minute of first half stoppage time Matt McClure’s shot was blocked by the home defence.

HALF TIME: Bromley 1-0 Chippenham Town

Five minutes after the break Bes Topalloj’s shot saw the sting taken out of it by a defender and Henry easily gathered.

On fifty seven minutes Fasanmade’s shot from distance went wide.

On sixty four minutes the Bluebirds levelled as Tyreke Johnson and Freddie Grant combined to find Fasanmade who converted Grant’s cross at the far post.

Midway through the half Luke Spokes’ corner was met by Grant whose headed effort went across the area.

On seventy minutes Olufela Olomola’s shot was tipped away by Henry.

Bromley then forced two corners in as many minutes but they were dealt with by the Bluebirds defence.

On eighty minutes a long Bromley throw saw a bicycle kick from Olomola saved by Henry.

At the other end the Bluebirds had a penalty appeal turned down after Luke Haines’ shot hit Arthurs.

In stoppage time Arthurs long range effort went wide whilst Bluebirds’ substitute Caine Bradbury’s shot was deflected for a corner.

In the ninety fifth minute substitute Louis Dennis’ shot went over the bar and the match went to penalties.

For the Bluebirds Matt McClure and Luke Spokes, via a post, scored but Tom Owen-Evans’ spot kick was saved and Bradbury hit his attempt over the bar.
