MATCH REPORT: Chelmsford City 1-1 Chippenham Town | National League South | Monday 26th August 2024

An end to end game where both sides will feel they could have taken the three points ended honours even, although the Bluebirds will feel the harder done by as they had a shot stopped on the line before the Essex side scored a late leveller.


The game started at a furious pace; Chelmsford should have opened the scoring on three minutes when Charlie Ruff failed to convert a cross from three yards out.

Chippenham retaliated as Matt McClure found Tyreke Johnson who went one on one but keeper Ted Collins came out on top.

McClure skied over whilst Luke Haines headed wide from a corner.

On twenty five minutes Freddie Hockey beat the off-side trap but his shot was saved by the boot of Will Henry.

Just after the half hour a spell of Chippenham pressure saw two Harry Parsons shots blocked.

Chippenham opened the scoring on thirty six minutes when Nat Williams found Tyreke Johnson who played in Matt McClure who took a touch to beat a defender before finding the corner of the net.

In the first minute of stoppage time a free kick to the Clarets ended with Ruff firing wide.

HALF TIME: Chelmsford City 0-1 Chippenham Town

After the restart Freddie Grant made two blocks to thwart the Essex side.

On fifty five minutes Nat Williams went off injured and was replaced by Aaron Amadi-Holloway.

A minute later McClure robbed a defender but his shot was deflected by Collins for a corner.

Just after the hour both sides made a substitution with Will Dawes replacing Johnson whilst Chelmford gave a debut to striker Jordan Greenidge signed today.

On sixty five minutes Archie Tamplin fired a thunderous effort over.

Six minutes later Parsons beat several players but his shot was off target.

On seventy seven minutes Lewis Colwell lost the ball to Greenidge on the half way line and the Clarets’ man’s eventual shot went wide and a minute later another Chelmsford shot went wide.

As the home side upped the tempo in the last quarter of an hour Greenidge just failed to get a touch to a cross.

Seven minutes from time Parsons’ shot was cleared off the line by Arthur Penney the ball was cleared to the other end where Ruff found Greenidge and he was left one on one with Henry to hit the equalizer.

Three minutes from time Luke Spokes’ free kick went over the bar. On eighty nine minutes Osman Foyo fired wide for Chelmsford.

In stoppage time Greenidge hit the cross bar from six yards out.
