MATCH REPORT: Chippenham Town 0-0 Bath City | National League South | Sunday 1st January 2023
This New Year’s Day clash saw the first goalless draw between these two sides since 1901.
It saw the Bluebirds take four festive points off their local rivals, although they remain in the relegation zone.
A crowd of 1558 saw a competitive match played out in sodden conditions which may well have contributed to a lack of clear cut chances, although the loss of Jordan Young six minutes before the break did not help Chippenham’s cause.
Young’s third minute free kick was saved by Josh Gould at the expense of a corner.
On twenty five minutes Harry Parsons’ shot on the turn was saved by Gould.
HALF TIME: Chippenham Town 0-0 Bath City
The first action of the second half saw Luke Russe fire over the bar.
Leighton Tuodolo then made a strong run from inside his own half but his final shot was pushed behind by Gould for a fruitless corner.
Bath came more into the game in the final twenty minutes with Callum Ebanks’s shot being clawed away by Will Henry.
From the resulting corner the Romans went close as Dan Hayfield’s shot took a deflection and Henry excelled as he pushed the ball against a post and behind.
A further Hayfield shot on seventy nine minutes was blocked by Will Tizzard.
Nine minutes later Hayfield shot wide whilst in the first minute of stoppage time a gallant run by Tizzard saw his eventual shot charged down.
Two minutes later a Chippenham free kick came to nothing and Bath broke away but substitute Scott Wilson’s shot was blocked.
