MATCH REPORT: Chippenham Town 0-2 Maidstone United | National League South | Saturday 9th September 2023

Published: at 9:11pm

A below par performance from the Bluebirds allowed Maidstone United to stroll to victory in sweltering conditions as visiting keeper Lucas Covolan was not called upon to make a single save.

Chippenham looked very weary after playing against Taunton for over seventy minutes on Tuesday with ten men in similar conditions.

The full-time Kent side went on the attack from the off with chances falling to Sam Bone on five minutes who shot wide and nine minutes later Sol Wanjau-Smith headed over.

The opening goal came on a quarter of an hour as Levi Amantcchi’s shot was blocked and Connor Kelly coolly slotted home his opening goal for the Kent side albeit with a hint of a deflection.

Ten minutes later the lead was doubled as a fine team move saw Michael Perasso pull the ball back to Wanjau-Smith who guided the ball home.

The impressive Kelly saw a shot deflected behind and from the resultant corner Levi Amantchi headed wide.

The Stones doubled their lead on twenty five minutes as Micheal Parasso pulled the ball back into the path of Wanjau-Smith who slotted home.

On the half hour Will Henry held onto Sam Bone’s headed effort following a corner.

Five minutes later Kelly’s shot from inside the area cannoned off the bar and flew over.

A minute before the break Chippenham were awarded their first corner but it came to nothing.

After the break Maidstone were content to allow the game to mostly be played in midfield as they were content to protect their lead.

George Fowler headed over at a fifty fifth minute corner whilst Chippenham finally gave their fans something to cheer as Luke Spokes’ effort was blocked on sixty four minutes.

Fifteen minutes from time Wanjau-Smith was unable to take advantage as Henry played the ball to him after coming out of his area to clear, but the Maidstone player shot straight at the back-tracking keeper.

Substitute Tyreke Johnson saw his shot deflected for a corner from which Freddie Grant’s headed effort was blocked.

In stoppage time substitute Ogo Obi forced Henry into a save whilst Amantchi fired over.
