MATCH REPORT: Chippenham Town 1-0 Hendon | Emirates FA Cup 4th Qualifying Round Replay, Tues 18th Oct 2022

Published: at 10:51pm

A night of high drama at the Thornbury Surfacing Stadium saw the Bluebirds edge into the first round proper where they are set to host League 1 side Lincoln City.

After taking the lead on thirty nine minutes through Joe Parker’s deflected shot the ensuing celebrations at the clubhouse corner saw a wall collapse and a delay of several minutes.

Then after the final whistle the visiting players reacted very badly as they instigated a melee from which four Hendon players and substitute Will Tizzard were red carded.

The match was short on cut chances as both sides failed to cause a threat on goal in the opening fifteen minutes. Hendon had an eighteenth minute chance but Robdell Gordon’s low drive went straight at Will Henry.

Eight minutes later Liam Brooks, Hendon’s hero of the original tie, found Joe White who drove forward but shot into the side netting.

Either side of the half hour mark Gordon created two chances, his first saw Frank Keita unable to take advantage of his cross, whist the second saw a long ball over the top pick out Brooks but he was closed down at the expense of a corner from which Will Richards cleared off the line.

On thirty nine minutes Parker’s shot from just outside of the area deflected off Gio Palmer and into the net for the decisive goal.

Hendon came out strongly after the break as Keita headed against the crossbar following a cross from Gordon.

Both Keita and Gordon then saw shots blocked. Just before the hour mark Solomon Sambou found White but he shot wide.

Midway through the half Parker found Jordan Young and his shot was saved by Marcin Brzozowski at the expense of a corner.

On seventy nine minutes Parker’s attempted bicycle kick went wide.

Two minutes later Greens’ substitute Josh Dawodu headed a cross from Palmer but Henry easily saved.

Three minutes from time Hendon’s Dave Diedhou fired over whilst in the fourth minute of stoppage time Bluebird substitute Callum Gunner’s low shot from outside of the area went wide.
