MATCH REPORT: Chippenham Town 1-1 Weston-super-Mare | Emirates FA Cup 3rd Qualifying Round | Saturday 28th September 2024

These two sides must replay in Somerset on Tuesday after a stalemate at the Thornbury Surfacing Stadium.


The first chance fell to the Bluebirds Will Dawes whose curling shot on six minutes went straight to Max Harris.

Three minutes later the Seagulls claim for a penalty after Reuben Reid went down in the box were denied.

A Chippenham corner then saw Joe Andrews’ shot well saved by Max Harris.

A free kick from Luke Coulson was headed clear by Luke Haines.

A further free kick for the Seagulls saw skipper Emlyn Lewis’s headed effort go very wide.

Just after the quarter hour mark a Chippenham corner ended with Harris saving well from Andrews.

Just before the half hour a James Dodd free kick bounced off the chest of Lewis but went straight to Will Henry.

Before the break Luke Spokes’ raking cross field ball found Dawes whose cross was headed wide by Matt McClure.

Whilst at the other end former Bluebird Nick McCootie’s cross cum shot went over the bar whilst Coulson’s shot was blocked.

After the break Tom Mehew poked wide of Harris’ goal whilst a Weston long throw eventually ended up at Swindon Town loanee Billy Kirkman who shot wide.

Weston took the lead on fifty one minutes as Reid headed home a cross from Coulson.

As Chippenham looked for a way back in McClure cut in but shot wide before the leveller came on sixty eight minutes as Mehew found Gravata who cut in and his dipping shot went across Harris and nestled into the net.

Both sides then went looking for a winner as the game opened up with Reid blazing over before he headed wide from a Kirkman corner and then saw his shot deflected wide.

Five minutes from time Henry made a superb save to turn Dodds’ shot behind for a corner.

Weston substitute Sam Avery saw his headed held by Henry whilst Chippenham substitute Harry Parsons scuffed his shot from the edge of the area whilst.

The final chance fell to the visitors in stoppage time but substitute Jordan Bastin’s headed effort from a Coulson cross was saved by Henry.
