MATCH REPORT: Chippenham Town 1-1 Worthing | National League South | Tuesday 28th February 2023
The Bluebirds recorded their fifth successive draw against fifth-placed Worthing who were forced to play with ten men from the twenty seventh minute.
In fact all the important action took place in that opening period as against the run of play Worthing took an eleventh minute lead after Kane Wills launched a long ball to the left and James Beresford’s cross to Josh Chambers who was tackled in the act of shooting and the ball fell to Swindon Town loanee Mo Dabre, who spent time at Chippenham last season, to tap home.
The Bluebirds responded within three minutes as Caine Bradbury found Owen Windsor who moved the ball on for Alex Bray to slot home.
Chippenham almost took the lead on eighteen minutes as Craig Fasanmade controlled the ball before his shot from the edge of the area was blocked by keeper Harrison Male.
Dabre then received a booking on twenty minutes followed by another seven minutes later to see him sent off.
Worthing then went on the defensive and relied on breakaways and set-pieces whilst despite a lot of possession Chippenham could not find a way through.
Windsor cleverly back-heeled the ball as it was about to go out for a goal kick but it was just out of the reach of Bradbury.
Bradbury then shot over whilst on the half hour Ollie Pearce’s shot was blocked by Henry.
Seven minutes later Windsor headed over a cross from Spencer Hamilton whilst Windsor’s free kick was only cleared as far as Luke Russe who volleyed wide.
Before the break Bradbury received the ball with his back to goal he turned but shot over.
Hamilton crossed to Fasanmade whose shot was blocked with appeals for handball in the box turned down.
HALF TIME: Chippenham Town 1-1 Worthing
After the break a superb weaving run from Bray led to a fruitless corner.
On fifty two minutes a poor clearance by Male led to Windsor shooting just wide.
Just before the hour mark a Worthing free kick ended with Ollie Pearce’s shot hitting the angle of post and bar.
Male then spilled Bradbury’s free kick but nobody could take advantage.
Worthing made a tripple substitution midway through the half and the change certainly gave them fresh impetus.
On seventy four minutes Bray was tripped in the area but again no penalty ensued.
Four minutes from time Tom Mehew presented Windsor with a good shooting opportunity but his shot was blazed over.
