MATCH REPORT: Chippenham Town 1-1 Yeovil Town | National League South | Tuesday 21st November 2023

Published: at 8:35pm

After conceding several very late goals this season, for the second match in succession it was the Bluebirds who scored late on to earn a point against runaway leaders Yeovil Town who had won their previous fourteen league matches.

The match was played out in front of a crowd 1,326 including a large noisy contingent from Somerset.

Freddie Grant’s sixth minute shot was saved by Glovers’ keeper Joe Day.

Five minutes later Rhys Murphy, who had scored at the Thornbury Surfacing Stadium when playing for Chelmsford, beat two defenders before curling an effort wide.

A minute later Murphy’s free kick from the edge of the area was touched onto a post and out for a corner by Will Henry.

On the quarter hour mark Luke Spokes’ long range shot went narrowly wide of Day’s goal.

Four minutes later Yeovil’s Michael Smith had the ball in the net but his effort was ruled out for off-side.

On twenty one minutes Henry saved a shot from Morgan Williams.

Between the twenty sixth and twenty eighth minute Chippenham forced four corners but all were dealt with by the Yeovil defence.

On thirty nine minutes Dan Ellison’s cross field ball picked out Matt McClure whose shot was blocked.

HALF TIME: Chippenham Town 0-0 Yeovil Town

The first minute of the second half saw Tom Mehew’s shot from the edge of the area go just wide.

Henry then pulled off a good save to deny Matthew Worthington after the ball had been flicked onto him by Frank Nouble.

Mehew then saw another shot blocked and Craig Fasanmade was off target with the rebound.

Caine Bradbury then blocked a Yeovil effort on the line whilst on the hour Sonny Blu Lo-Everton fired wide.

Midway through the half Henry again distinguished himself as he saved substitute Jordan Maguire-Drew’s free kick.

The Chippenham stopper again excelled as he made a point blank save from the same player.

Fifteen minutes from time Maguire-Drew’s attempt at an overhead kick failed.

Yeovil opened the scoring on seventy seven minutes as Henry again saved but substitute Jake Hyde was on hand to tap home.

Two minutes later Bradbury shot wide whilst Henry again saved the hosts as he blocked a shot at the expense of a corner.

Ten minutes from time Gary Horgan introduced Aaron Amadi-Holloway as an additional striker and his physical presence appeared to unsettle the Yeovil back-line.

Six minutes later McClure’s shot lacked the necessary power to beat Day whilst successive shots were blocked by the Glovers defence before Bradbury’s cross was headed over by Amadi-Holloway.

In the ninetieth minute Bradbury’s high cross into the area saw Holloway challenging and the unfortunate Morgan Williams conceded an own goal.
