MATCH REPORT: Chippenham Town 1-3 Welling United

Published: at 11:25pm

The Bluebirds fell to their third successive home league defeat at the hands of lowly Welling United, who until this match had failed to register a goal or point on their travels.

After looking the better side Chippenham fell behind on thirty four minutes, only to draw level in stoppage time.

However, a poor second half saw the visitors, under new manager Peter Taylor, the former England manager, run out easy winners.

The first chance of the game fell to the Bluebirds as Jack Sims held Adam Mann’s effort.

A fine run from Danny Greenslade saw him find Mann but the chance went begging.

At the other end Kristian Campbell’s free kick was high.

As Chippenham continued to dominate Callum Gunner’s long range shot went high and his headed effort was off target.

On the half hour Joe Hanks’s free kick went straight at Sims. Welling opened the scoring four minutes later as Campbell found Danny Carr whose shot on the turn angled across Will Henry.

After Harvey Bunker failed to hit the target the Bluebirds equalised on forty six minutes when a foul on Marlon Jackson saw Mann’s sublime free kick nestle into the back of the net.

Eight minutes into the second half Dipo Akinyemi restored Welling’s lead as he met O’Shane Stewart’s cross to beat Henry from close range.

Che Krabbendam then wrapped the game up on fifty seven minutes after good work from Aaron Barnes.

Sims then tipped a good effort from Hanks round a post, before Chippenham were handed a way back in on the hour mark when Will Richards was fouled at a corner and a penalty was awarded.

Substitute Ross Stearn, who had only been on the pitch a few minutes took the spot kick but hit a post and the ball rolled across the goal and out the other side.

Ade Shokunbi’s run from inside his own half saw him force Henry into a smart save.

Skipper Kieran Parselle did find the net for the Bluebirds but the effort was ruled out for offside.
