Town defeated by Chesham after rampant first half

Chippenham Town fell to defeat against Chesham United in the National League South, as a rampant 25 minutes killed the match before half-time.

We started the brighter side, as Olaf Koszela and Anointed Chukwu both had shots from distance that were blocked.

On 15 minutes a long ball from Canice Carroll was excellently brought down my Ezio Touray and his shot was deflected into the crossbar.

With their first foray into our half, Chesham took the lead as second phase of play landed at the feet of Alex Babos whose curling effort flew past Will Henry.

Eight minutes later Chesham’s lead was doubled, Alex Lafleur’s cross was headed in from Mitchell Weiss from close range.

CTFC began to wrangle control of the match, with a number of set pieces delivered into the Chesham penalty area but dealt with well by the visitors.

On 35 minutes Carroll was adjudged to have brought down Lafleur inside of the penalty area, which Matt Lench converted despite the best efforts of Henry who dived the correct way.

On 39 minutes a deep from the Chesham right landed on the head of Connor Stevens, and his touch was enough to deflect into the net for a 4-0 Chesham lead.

Half-time: Chippenham Town 0-4 Chesham United.

Three half time changes meaning the introduction of Freddie Grant, Caine Bradbury and Tom Owen-Evans sparked life into CTFC.

With almost his first touch Owen-Evans headed just over the goal, and he later had a shot saved by Ben Goode in the Chesham net.

On the hour mark a clever move between Tom Mehew and Lewis Colwell saw the latter cross the ball to Bradbury at the far post. His effort was struck into the floor, beating the keeper but smashed the crossbar and going out of play.

Our best chance of the match came on 74 minutes, as a fantastic cross from Grant was met my an equally impressive header from Touray. Unfortunately his effort hit the inside of the post and was unable to be turned in by Henry Sady.

The second half pressure told on 80 minutes, as Caine Bradbury’s corner was turned in by the head of Callum Wood, his first in our colours.

Just seconds after the restart Caine Bradbury earned and then took a free kick destined for the top corner were it not for Goode who turned behind.

With the final action of the match Will Henry was forced into his only second half action as substitute Zak Joesph’s shot from close range was turned behind.

Full-time: Chippenham Town 1-4 Chesham United.

Our attention now turns to Dagenham & Redbridge this weekend.
