Top notch Bluebirds beat table toppers, Teejan Sowe reports:

CTFC defeated the league leaders Torquay United thanks to a late goal from Tom Mehew, and a fantastic defensive performance and clean sheet.

The first chance of the game landed for Torquay with a cross that landed for Ed Palmer which was headed passively into Will Henry’s hands.

Our first opportunity came from a well worked move and shot from the edge of the box from Evans that ended up being pushed out for a corner by Hamon.

Just before the interval came Town’s best chance of the half as Ezio Touray had his 1 on 1 effort saved before a fantastic cross from Bradbury led to a scissor kick from Touray which was hacked from the line.

Torquay’s second chance of the half fell to Young who tried to place it in the bottom corner but was eventually saved by Henry.

Chippenham’s first chance came in the 55th minute stemmed from a cross played in to Parsons who laid it off to Bradbury who placed it just wide of the post.

A solid chance for Torquay’s Young who got the ball out wide from the counter attack and fired a shot on from close range right into the chest of Henry.

72 minutes in and a great save came from Henry after a great shot by fresh sub Morgan. It was whipped in from around 20 yards out and was heading for the top corner.

The decisive moment arrived on 83 minutes. Grant delivered a deep ball into the area and Tom Mehew reacted quickest, pouncing to fire Chippenham into the lead and send the home crowd into raptures.

Torquay pushed late on, sending one final ball into the box, but it was met by a tame header that Henry collected comfortably to seal the clean sheet.

A resilient defensive display and a moment of quality proved enough as the Bluebirds claimed a memorable victory.
