An afternoon to forget for Luke Hallett, but encouraging signs for CTFC

CTFC fanned the flames of survival with a pretty convincing win over National League South newbies AFC Totton, an own goal for Luke Hallett either side of half-time earned the Bluebirds a justified victory.

The first 15 minutes of the game was cagey with the first flashpoint as a free kick was given against Will King on the edge of the box, and the resulting shot from Craig Tanner and was blocked in the wall by Anointed Chukwu.

On 23 minutes Sol Wanjau-Smith broke from his own half on a solo run, and was thwarted by Hallett earning himself a caution. Caine Bradbury’s free-kick matched the previous by Totton and was directed into the wall.

The first big opportunity for Chippenham came just short of the half hour mark as a corner was delivered to the back post for Freddie Grant to head across goal to Luke Haines who’s volley was blocked by a defender. The second phase ended up at the feet of Caine Bradbury, who’s floated cross was aimed at Chukwu at the far post with it going just above the centre-forward’s reach.

A long ball up to Malachi Linton was held up well with the ball eventually switching play to Ralph Vigrass who’s half volley was struck well which produced a fantastic save by Will Henry.

Another precise long ball to Linton was well controlled and his first effort was blocked by Freddie Grant with the follow up shot being saved with Henry’s feet.

Moments later a dangerous cross was delivered by Christie Ward with Vigrass open in the box and his shot was blazed over the bar from point blank range, easily the biggest chance of the match.

Not long before half time and some good hold up play by Parsons managed to slip in Billy Phillips who was open in the box and his left footed effort was comfortably saved by Ryan Gosney in the Totton goal.

In the sixth minute of stoppage time, George Birch pounced on a loose ball who layed it off to Chukwu who tried to curl the shot pass Gosney but was parried out to for a corner. The resulting corner was delivered to Haines with his header being cleared out wide to Phillips who dazzled past multiple defenders with his cross coming off Luke Hallett and the ball trickled into the net to give the Bluebirds the lead.
