MATCH REPORT: Chippenham Town 2-0 Chesham United | National League South | Tuesday 11th February 2025

Published: at 2:15pm

After losing twice to the Generals this season it was a case of third time lucky as the Bluebirds picked up the three points. However, there was no luck about the result as a professional performance which saw Chippenham without any of their three regular centre backs produce an admirable defensive display which saw Freddie Grant and academy player Jac Poffley at the heart of the defence.

The Bluebirds settled the nerves early with a fourth minute goal with Joe Andrews’ defence splitting ball setting up Tom Mehew to slot home, this came a minute after Harry Parsons had fired wide.

Luke Spokes and Mehew then combined with the former’s shot being deflected behind.

At the other end a Chesham effort deflected to Will Henry and a headed effort went straight at the home custodian.

Chesham keeper Dillon Addai then pushed behind a shot from Matt McClure.

On twenty seven minutes a Parsons shot from outside of the area was blocked by Addai.

Ten minutes before the break Chesham’s Matt Lench fired wide whilst a further effort went across the face of Henry’s goal.

Andrews then crossed for McClure whose diving header was narrowly off target whilst Andrews and Will King combined to find Parsons but from a good position the striker failed to hit the target.

Three minutes before the break Chesham’s Samson Esan shot over whilst Andrews shot saw the ball bobble and his effort went wide.

HALF TIME: Chippenham Town 1-0 Chesham United

In stoppage time Chesham’s Brad Clayton’s shot from distance was held by Henry.

At the start of the second half Henry had to be alert to dive on a low shot from Esan who also saw a shot go wide.

The visitors then forced five corners in as many minutes but to no avail although Alex Lafleur’s shot was saved by Henry.

On seventy three minutes the Bluebirds wrapped the game up with a fine breakaway goal; Mehew found Will Dawes who squared for Parsons to tap home.

A minute later Will King’s throw found Mehew whose first time shot was just off target.

Five minutes from time substitute Tom Owen-Evans found Dawes whose shot was deflected for a corner.
