MATCH REPORT: Chippenham Town 2-1 Aveley | National League South | Saturday 1st February 2025
The Bluebirds recorded a league double over the Essex side as they came from behind with a much improved second half display. Aveley could have been out of sight in the opening forty five minutes as they scored a goal and hit the woodwork on more than one occasion whilst Chippenham rarely forced a save out of James Holden. However, two goals in three minutes at the start of the second half saw Chippenham come away with the three points.
The Essex side called the early shots as Razzaq Coleman dragged his third minute shot wide and David Hicks also failed to hit the target five minutes later.
On sixteen minutes a shot from on loan Newport County striker Hamzad Kargbo lacked the power to trouble Holden.
A minute later an Aveley corner was headed back across goal by Brooklyn Kabongolo to Tyrese Owen who directed his headed effort straight at Will Henry.
Coleman again shot wide before David Kawa’s shot was deflected onto a post and out for a corner.
The resulting thirty sixth minute flag-kick from Hicks was headed home by Kabongolo.
Before the break a shot from Harry Beadle cannoned off the cross bar whilst in stoppage time Alfie Lewis fired over.
HALF TIME: Chippenham Town 0-1 Aveley
After the break Coleman’s shot was blocked before the Bluebirds levelled on fifty one minutes as a free kick routine saw the ball floated over for Luke Haines to head home.
Three minutes later Luke Spokes’ shot took a wicked deflection off a defender to loop over Holden for the winning goal.
Just before the hour it could have been three as Tyreke Johnson’s shot was just too high.
A Bluebird breakaway then ended with Leone Gravata shooting high.
Eight minutes from time another effort from Johnson was blocked as was a shot from Kargbo.
Henry did well to save at an Aveley corner and also kept Aveley out with a good save from a low shot as the Bluebirds held on for the three points.
