MATCH REPORT: Chippenham Town 2-1 Dulwich Hamlet | National League South | Sat 24th Sept 2022

Published: at 2:16pm

Most of the telling action happened in the second half as for the third successive home league match the Bluebirds snatched a late winner.

The opening half saw defences on top with little goalmouth action although the forty five minutes weren’t without incident.

Former Bluebird defender Tyrone Mings was watching his home town club and spend much of his time patiently and politely doing selfies with a host of young (and old!) fans.

The first chance fell to the Bluebirds on seven minutes as Jordan Young shot over from outside of the area.

On the half hour Hamlet’s Sam Deadfield was off target with a shot, whilst six minutes later Frankie Raymond’s corner went beyond the far post where Ronnie Vint headed into the side netting.

Nana Owusu then saw his shot charged down.

The best chance of the opening period saw Dulwich break three on two with Jayden Clark and Joe Felix combining as the ball was rolled across the area to Owusu who from close in with only Will Henry to beat shot into the side netting.

In stoppage time Young was presented with two free kicks the second of which was beaten away by Charlie Grainger.

HALF TIME: Chippenham Town 0-0 Dulwich Hamlet

The Bluebirds took the lead three minutes into the second period when a corner was only cleared as far as Caine Bradbury wide on the left and he curled home an exquisite thirty yard effort into Grainger’s far corner.

Dulwich almost levelled three minutes later when substitute George Porter intercepted a pass and his cross saw Henry stick out a boot and the ball spun just over the head of the lurking Danny Mills.

The Hamlet did equalise on fifty six minutes when a long ball from Raymond saw Will King fail to clear and Porter was able to roll the ball home.

Bradbury’s forty yard free kick went wide whilst just past the hour mark a superb run from inside his own half by Joe Parker into the Dulwich area saw him draw Grainger but shoot narrowly past the far post.

On sixty eight minutes a long ball forward was headed on by Mills but Jack Holland headed just over.

Three minutes later Henry did well to push away an effort from Owusu.

On seventy four minutes Harvey Greenslade appeared to be fouled in the area but nothing was given.

Ten minutes from time a low shot from just inside the area was saved by Henry.

A Raymond free kick then found Owusu but his shot bounced into Henry’s arms.

On eighty nine minutes substitute Joe Hanks’ deep cross beyond the far post was met by Parker who headed home his first goal in a Bluebird shirt.
