MATCH REPORT: Chippenham Town 2-1 Farnborough | National League South | Tuesday 7th November 2023

Published: at 8:24pm

Chippenham Town produced a sparkling display against Farnborough who started the day in 7th place after a league run of seven unbeaten matches.

It was the Bluebirds second victory at the Thornbury Surfacing Stadium in four days.

Chippenham were the first to show as Freddie Grant’s first minute cross was touched behind by Ed Williams.

Four minutes later Edon Pruti’s headed effort was held by Will Henry.

On thirteen minutes Henry’s long ball out found Craig Fasanmade whose angled shot was touched behind by keeper Jack Turner.

From the resulting fourteenth minute Caine Bradbury corner Dan Ellison scored with a powerful header.

Bradbury then saw a shot blocked and Luke Spokes’ follow-up was deflected to Turner.

Midway through the half Michael Folivi’s shot from the edge of the area went over.

Ed Jones’ cross was then met with a Fasanmade shot that Turner fumbled before the ball was cleared.

Around the half hour Folivi saw his low shot saved whilst a Farnborough free kick saw Henry save Olly Pendlebury’s shot.

On thirty five minutes Tyreke Johnson’s cross was fractionally too high for Fasanmade.

Johnson then played Fasanmade through but a bobble saw his shot fly over.

Pendlebury then saw another free kick saved by Henry.

Before the break Luke Haines’ shot was saved by Turner.

HALF TIME: Chippenham Town 1-0 Farnborough

The opening minute of the second half saw Bradbury’s free kick palmed away by Turner.

Two minutes later Fasanmade pulled the ball back to Bradbury whose low shot found the back of the net.

Folivi then shot wide before he pulled a goal back on the hour as he tapped home from Pendlebury’s low cross.

Substitute Alex Bray’s teasing cross then went over Turner’s head and across the face of goal but there was no Bluebird player able to take advantage.

A thumping shot from Spokes then cannoned back off the cross bar whilst Williams saw two successive shots blocked by the Hampshire side’s defence.

Pruti then picked up two bookings in a minute as the visitors were reduced to ten men.

Ten minutes from time Tom Mehew pulled the ball back into the path of Fasanmade whose shot went wide.

During the nine minutes of stoppage time Haines’ effort was blocked as was a shot from Fasanmade as the Bluebirds comfortably held out for the three points.
