The Bluebirds lost their unbeaten start to the season when a below par performance saw them concede two soft goals along with a very dubious penalty award.

Chippenham were the first to attack on two minutes when on-loan Oxford United defender Michael Elechi saw his shot deflected behind. Ross Stearn’s corner saw Marlon Jackson flash a header across the face of goal.

The Clarets took the lead on ten minutes when Charlie Sheringham appeared to fall over Spencer Hamilton’s outstretched leg but referee Paul Johnson saw it differently and awarded a spot kick from which Sheringham netted.

Five minutes later Alex Bray’s shot appeared to hit a defender’s hand but nothing was given and on nineteen minutes Sheringham doubled the lead when a defensive lapse saw him left with only Will Henry to beat which he duly did. Just after the half hour Harry Warwick replaced the injured Adam Mann.

Three minutes before the interval Warwick weaved into the area before laying the ball to Jackson whose goalbound effort was stopped by the legs of keeper Jacob Marsden.

Stearn then hit a free kick over the bar before in first half stoppage time Chippenham pulled a goal back as Joe Hanks fired home from inside the area, Chippenham started the second half on the front foot with Stearn’s free kick causing a melee in the area before Marsden pounced on the ball. A further appeal for hands from a Claret’s defender from a fifty second minute cross was also waved away.

Hanks then fired off target before Chelmsford extended their lead on the hour. Sheringham threaded the ball to the unmarked Simeon Jackson whose  shot slipped through the hands of Will Henry. Claret’s Dara Dada-Anite saw his effort deflect for a corner which was headed across goal by David Winfield to Sheringham who shot high.

Hanks then saw another effort miss the target whilst Will Richards was similarly wide with a long range shot. Chippenham again found the net in stoppage time as Hanks was fouled in the area.

The ensuing spot kick from Jackson was well-saved by Marsden but Warwick reacted quickest to net the loose ball.
