MATCH REPORT: Chippenham Town 3-2 Bath City | Friday 26th December| National League South

Chukwu nets late as CTFC win the A4 Derby.


The first chance of the game fell to former Bluebird Luke Russe after Anointed Chukwu headed away a corner only as far as Russe, but he fired over.

Chippenham grew into the game and on eight minutes they had their first chance as Jake Evans delivered a free-kick from midway in the Bath half with Canice Carroll flicking goalwards but his effort was saved.

The Bluebirds came close to striking first as Tom Mehew went for goal from range but unfortunately saw his effort go over.

Bath took the lead on the 14th minute with Owen Windsor firing into the bottom right corner from an acute angle.

Billy Phillips who came into the side after making his debut away at Weston super-Mare last week had Chippenham’s best chance of the game so far on the 20th minute as he found space inside the City box but Harvey Wiles-Richards tips over for a corner.

From the corner The Romans clear only as far as Evans on the edge of the area who narrowly missed the top right corner.

Moments later Town come forward again this time Wanjau-Smith delivers a cross from the left which was just out of reach for Chukwu.

We equalised five minutes before the break as Evans dinked the ball into the area with Harry Parsons’ effort coming off of Canice Carroll and into the bottom corner.

Three minutes into first half added time Haines takes a free-kick from range which stings the gloves of Wiles-Richard’s with the Bluebirds finishing the first half the stronger.

We took the lead early in the second half as Sol Wanjau-Smith earned us a penalty after being tripped inside the area. Parsons stepped up and sends the goalkeeper the wrong way and fires into the bottom left corner, his fourth of the season.

Bath find their first chance of the second half through Windsor but he fired over from close range. With the Bluebirds defending strong and keeping hold of their one goal advantage.

Carroll received the ball on the edge of before jinking his way into a shotting opportunity but his effort was deflected behind for a corner.

Chippenham kept the pressure on as moments later Evans received the ball on the edge of the Bath box but unfortunately fires over.

Theo Bluebirds kept control of the game as on the 60th it was the Bluebirds with yet another chance as Wanjau-Smith struck from distance and saw his effort go just wide.

With just under five minutes remaining in the game Chippenham continued to press forward looking for another goal. Bradbury pounces on a mixup at the back and finds himself one-on-one but sees his effort cleared off the line.

On the stroke of additional time Bath City won a free-kick on the edge of the box. Up stepped substitute Jordan Alves to fire home to level things at two a piece.

With four of the additional five minutes played Chippenham won a free-kick high up the pitch. Bradbury delivers into the area and up steps Anointed Chukwu to send Chippenham Town fans into raptures as he nets the winner in the A4 derby.
