MATCH REPORT: Chippenham Town 3-2 Weymouth | National League South | Tuesday 21st March 2023

Published: at 11:47am

The Bluebirds made it five straight wins and eleven unbeaten as they twice came from behind before a stoppage time penalty earned them victory, in the process recording their first league double of the season. In a strange game Chippenham had most of the possession but Weymouth twice hit the post, drew two superb saves from Will Henry and handed the Bluebirds all three of their goals through defensive errors.

Weymouth took the lead on three minutes as Ahkeem Rose slid in to convert a cross by Tom Blair.

Chippenham’s first chance came on thirteen minutes when Zaki Oualah saved well from Owen Windsor.

Midway through the half Windsor’s shot from distance went over. At the other end Henry saved from Rose.

On twenty four minutes Blair’s shot hit the post and Teddy Howe’s follow-up was saved by Henry.

The Bluebirds levelled on twenty four minutes when Oualah missed Joe Hanks’s corner and the ball entered the net.

Three minutes later Alex Bray’s ball into the box was flicked wide by Ed Williams making his home debut.

On thirty five minutes Williams’ free kick from the edge of the area was just too high.

Four minutes later Brad Ash wriggled into the box to go one on one but his shot hit the post.

Blair’s free kick was then turned over the bar by Henry for a corner which was cleared for another fruitless corner.

HALF TIME: Chippenham Town 1-1 Weymouth

The first action after the break saw Ash fire over the bar, whilst Keelan O’Connell’s effort was held by Henry.

As Weymouth continued to press another O’Connell shot was superbly saved by Henry.

On sixty six minutes another O’Connell shot was blocked.

Midway through the half Bray raced into the area but shot over the bar.

On sixty eight minutes a Chippenham corner was scrambled off the line and a Bray shot was blocked.

On seventy minutes a Weymouth counter attack saw Blair cross to former Bluebird Ash to tap home.

Chippenham retaliated immediately as Oualah and his back four allowed a long clearance to reach substitute Caine Bradbury rounded him to equalize.

Ten minutes from time Williams fired wide.

In the third minute of stoppage time substitute Ed Jones was fouled by Oualah as he tried to round the keeper and the resultant penalty was scored by Windsor
