MATCH REPORT: Dorking Wanderers 1-0 Chippenham Town | National League South | Saturday 17th August 2024

Chippenham Town again failed to take anything from this their third visit to Dorking Wanderers.

A cagey opening finally saw the first chance of the game on twelve minutes when Dorking’s Jimmy Muitt’s cross was headed straight at Will Henry by Jason Prior.

Five minutes later Wands skipper Charlie Carter dribbled his way past two Bluebird defenders but Alfie Rutherford was unable to take advantage of his pass.

Midway through the half Carter made room for himself before firing wide.

The Bluebirds only chance in the opening half hour came from Joe Andrews who dragged his effort wide of the target.

As the Surrey side continued to call the shots Aaron Kuhl’s thirty fourth minute shot went just over the bar.

Four minutes later an acrobatic effort from Carter was safely gathered by Henry.

The pressure finally told in the first minute of stoppage time with a goal from Rutherford who converted a cross from the right with a volley.

HALF TIME: Dorking Wanderers 1-0 Chippenham Town

Seven minutes after the break Rutherford’s flick hit a post and although the loose ball was tapped home the effort was ruled out for off side.

On fifty seven minutes a speculative effort from distance by Sebastian Bowerman curled wide.

Midway through the half the Bluebirds had a golden chance to level as Harry Parsons went through on goal but was denied by keeper Harrison Foulkes and Caine Bradbury’s effort from the loose ball was cleared off the line by Tony Craig.

A quarter of an hour from time Jason Prior’s headed effort lacked the necessary power whilst a promising opportunity for Parsons was ended by the challenge of Brennan Camp.
