MATCH REPORT: Eastbourne Borough 2-1 Chippenham Town | National League South | Sat 3rd Dec 2022

Published: at 5:41pm

Chippenham remained in the relegation zone as the old adage about things going against you when you are near the bottom rang true as Eastbourne came from behind with their equaliser coming after a clear foul on Will Tizzard in the build up was ignored. Then shortly after the Bluebirds were denied a penalty the Sussex side were awarded a dubious spot-kick of their own to score a late winner.

Chippenham started very brightly and could have been out of sight in the opening twenty minutes.

As it was they had to be content with Alex Bray’s sixth minute effort as he fired past Lee Worgan after the home stopper had dropped Jordan Young’s free kick.

Great play from Tizzard then saw Harvey Greenslade lose his footing as the chance went begging.

On ten minutes Harry Parsons slipped in the act of shooting and Worgan was able to save.

Eastbourne fashioned an effort three minutes later as Leone Gravata’s curling shot was saved by Will Henry.

Tom Mehew then failed with a speculative effort from distance, whilst Spencer Hamilton’s shot was blocked.

On twenty eight minutes Shiloh Remy’s shot hit a post whilst on the half hour Greenslade’s shot was blocked for a corner.

Four minutes later Kai Innocent’s shot was high.

Before the break Gravata’s fine run ended with him shooting wide.

The Sports levelled two minutes before the interval as a foul on Tizzard went unpunished and as play was allowed to continue Remy drove home.

Greenslade then saw his shot blocked for a corner.

HALF TIME: Eastbourne Borough 1-1 Chippenham Town

Five minutes after the break Gravata’s shot was palmed over the bar by Henry.

A corner for the hosts then saw Charlie Walker fire high.

On fifty seven minutes Parsons’  shot was blocked for a corner.

A Young corner on the hour was headed over by Will Richards.

Midway through the half Henry saved a headed effort from Mitch Dickinson whilst Jake Hutchinson’s effort was ruled out for off side.

A James Hammond corner saw Remy’s shot blocked whilst the latter also failed in a one on one with Henry as he slid the ball past a post.

Chippenham wasted a golden opportunity on eighty three minutes as Young chose to go one on one with Worgan instead of squaring to the unmarked Parsons; Worgan saved and in the action that followed Bray was brought down in the area but no penalty was awarded.

The deciding goal came three minutes from time as substitute Will King was harshly adjudged to have fouled Remy in the area and the Eastbourne player converted the resultant penalty himself to record a double.

The referee was again the centre of controversy as he appeared to blow up two minutes earlier than the time added on board had indicated.
