MATCH REPORT: Farnborough 2-1 Chippenham Town | National League South | Wednesday 25th February 2026

Published: at 9:00am

Defeat at the death in Hampshire.

Chippenham Town were cruelly denied a point deep into stoppage time as a dramatic late winner saw the Bluebirds fall to a 2–1 defeat away at Farnborough.

The opening exchanges were competitive and evenly matched, with both sides looking to gain a foothold. Farnborough threatened early through Hakeem Sandah, who fashioned space down the flank and won a corner, but Town defended resolutely. Chippenham’s first meaningful opening arrived on 15 minutes when Sol Wanjau-Smith drove inside and fired narrowly wide of the far post.

Farnborough enjoyed spells of pressure, with Courtney Senior going close at the back post and a later scramble in the Chippenham box eventually cleared by a determined Bluebirds defence. Aside from those moments, clear-cut chances were limited and the half ended goalless, with Town well organised and growing into the contest.

The hosts broke the deadlock on 58 minutes when Wesley Fonguck found space in the area and slotted past Will Henry to give Farnborough the lead. Chippenham responded positively, pushing men forward in search of an equaliser and asking questions of the home defence.

Harry Parsons was introduced from the bench and went close with his first involvement, firing just wide, while Wanjau-Smith continued to cause problems with his direct running.

The pressure eventually told, as Town found a way back into the contest thanks to captain Luke Haines, following a wide free-kick from substitute Caine Bradbury.

As the game entered the closing stages, Chippenham looked the more likely to snatch a winner. Parsons again threatened from range, while Farnborough were forced into desperate defending to hold the Bluebirds at bay. The home side almost squandered the point when Bingham fired had a shot blocked by Freddie Grant wide in added time.

With six minutes of stoppage time announced, Town pushed for a decisive moment, but heartbreak followed in the final seconds. A cross from Sandah found substitute Louie Holzman in the box, who converted to give Farnborough a last-gasp winner and deny Chippenham any reward for their efforts.

A bitter end to a committed and disciplined display from the Bluebirds, who were unfortunate to leave empty-handed after a strong second-half response.
