
MATCH REPORT: Hornchurch 1-2 Chippenham Town | National League South | Saturday 21st December 2024
This first ever clash between these two sides saw the Bluebirds come out on top with a much deserved stoppage time winner. Until that point home stopper Mason Terry, on loan from West Ham United, had pulled off a string of good saves to keep the scores level.
The Urchins Liam Nash’s first minute wind-assisted shot from distance went wide.
The Bluebirds first chance came on eight minutes after Harry Parsons and Tom Mehew combined to present Caine Bradbury with a chance but his shot was beaten out by Terry.
A minute later Will Henry saved Henry Hearn’s shot with his legs.
On twenty minutes Luke Spokes’ free kick was met by Parsons but his headed effort was deflected behind for a fruitless corner.
Five minutes later a thunderous shot from Tom Wraight slammed into the crossbar.
Just after the half hour Leone Gravata’s shot was blocked and Parsons’ effort from the rebound was blocked by Ryan Scott.
The Essex side took the lead on thirty six minutes when a free kick from Myles Weston was headed home by Scott.
Just before the break a Bluebird corner saw the ball end up at Tyreke Johnson’s feet but his shot hit two defenders and was easily held by Terry, whilst Alex Bray’s shot was saved by Terry’s feet.
HALF TIME: Hornchurch 1-0 Chippenham Town
Chippenham equalized three minutes into the second half as Spokes’ driving run ended with a rasping shot into the top corner.
Two minutes later Joe Andrews’ shot was blocked by Scott.
On fifty two minutes another Spokes shot from distance was tipped over the bar by Terry.
The resulting corner ended with Gravata’s effort being deflected behind for another corner from which Luke Haines’ shot was blocked.
A shot from Johnson was then hacked over the bar by a home defender.
Andrews then went close with another shot.
Just after the hour Terry did well to turn Gravata’s shot behind whilst Terry again excelled as he touched a Parsons effort behind.
From the Andrews’ corner Terry again saved well as he used his feet to block a shot from Spokes.
On eighty four minutes a shot from Andrews went wide.
On eighty six minutes Urchins substitute Ade Yousuff fired over two minutes later Terry somehow managed to reach an eight yard shot from substitute Matt McClure.
In stoppage time a Spokes corner saw Aaron Amadi-Holloway head through Terry’s legs to give the Bluebirds a deserved three points and their 100th victory in National South.
