We taste defeat in Hornchurch

We round out August in the National League South with a defeat away to Hornchurch. A brace from Henry Hearn, and a stoppage time goal from Angelo Balanta forced us to defeat.

The first chance to fall our way came on 11 minutes, as Caine Bradbury found Luke Haines with a clever corner and our captain’s header landed at the feet of Sol Wanjau-Smith who could not convert.

Our goalkeeper Will Henry was forced into a low smart stop just a minute later, with a shot from Hornchurch captain Josh Rees.

On 20 minutes the hosts netted the opener,as Rees played a nice cross into centre forward Henry Hearn was delicately placed into the net via the post.

Will Henry was then forced into two more similar low shots, that were well held.

Momentum began to swing as the interval loomed, and Tom Owen-Evans had a shot from the edge of the box narrowly go over.

As we edged into stoppage time, and the two minutes of it, Hearn netted again. This time his effort was a bit less well worked, as following a six year box scramble, Hearn toe-poked in from close range.
Half-time: Hornchurch 2-0 Chippenham Town

The second half started bright, as we had two free-kicks within shooting range. Haines narrowly shot over from a central position, with Bradbury forcing a save from the Hornchurch goalkeeper from a tight angle.

In a bright spark of the afternoon, Will King returned to action, his first of the season following the summer out with an injury!

Our biggest opportunity of the second half came with two substitutes combining, as Henry Sady set through Ezio Touray with a clever through ball. Touray had his shot well saved.

As we reached the crescendo of the match our final chance came with Olaf Koszela, who appeared to have been fouled in the penalty area, but he stayed on his feet in attempt to get a shot away.

In the embers of stoppage time Hornchurch cleared long towards Sean Scannell who combined with fellow substitute Angelo Balanta, with the latter curling one into the far corner to add the cherry on the afternoon.
