MATCH REPORT: Maidstone United 3-0 Chippenham Town | National League South | Saturday 8th November

Published: at 10:58pm

The Stones’ first half flurry of goals hurt CTFC, despite creating chances.

Chippenham Town fell to defeat on the road as Maidstone United claimed a 3–0 victory at the Gallagher Stadium. Despite the scoreline, the Bluebirds created a number of chances and showed flashes of promise in a difficult encounter away from home.

We started off as the brighter side, with Reece Fleet having the first chance of the game, a shot from the edge of the box well saved by Maidstone’s goalkeeper.

But the hosts took the lead after 15 minutes, Hamzad Kargbo heading in from a deep cross.

Olaf Koszela earned Chippenham a clear cut chance, after following Vaughan’s long pass, but his shot was smartly saved.

As the first half progressed, Chippenham looked to grow into the game, but Maidstone doubled their lead on 41 minutes thanks to John Gilbert tapping in from Kargbo’s smart header.

They added a third shortly after the restart, as Dajon Golding fired onto the crossbar, with the assistant indicating that the ball had crossed the line. Three goals from seemingly the only chances conceded.

Vaughan went close to pulling one back early in the second half, forcing the goalkeeper into a strong parry after good build-up play. A triple substitution followed on 55 minutes, with Harry Parsons, Will King and the returning Tom Owen-Evans entering the action to inject fresh energy into the side. Sol Wanjau-Smith later replaced Jac Poffley as the Bluebirds continued to press for a way back into the match.

Parsons came closest late on, showing quick feet inside the box before firing goalward, only to see his effort comfortably saved by the home goalkeeper. Despite their persistence, the Bluebirds couldn’t find a breakthrough against a well-organised Maidstone defence.

Parsons came close again as he attempted to dink the ball over the goalkeeper, with defenders rushing back to clear.

The second half largely saw Maidstone with the ball in their defensive third, seeing out a rampant first half spell.
