MATCH REPORT: Salisbury 3-2 Chippenham Town | National League South | Saturday 21st September 2024
An end to end match saw The Whites come out on top in the first league game between the sides since Salisbury reformed.
The hosts were the first to show with Josh Hedges and former Bluebird Noah Coppin failed with early chances.
The Bluebirds had the ball in the net on eight minutes as Matt McClure’s shot was dropped by David Aziaya and Tom Owen-Evans tapped home but the effort was ruled out for off side.
Just before the quarter hour mark Salisbury went close as Will Henry blocked Jordan Raguette’s shot and Josh Hedges follow-up was blocked by Nat Williams.
Midway through the half Owen-Evans’ shot was blocked for a corner.
Salisbury took the lead against the run of play when Josh Thomas and Aidan Elliott-Wheeler combined to find Ragguette who gave Will Henry no chance with a fierce shot.
The Bluebirds almost replied immediately but McClure’s headed effort was well-saved by Aziaya.
Three minutes before the break Tom Leggett’s shot was blocked.
HALF TIME: Salisbury 1-0 Chippenham Town
The opening minute of the second half saw Henry make a superb block to deny Hedges after he had been played in by Coppin.
On fifty six minutes another good chance fell to McClure but he was unable to convert as he fired wide.
The Bluebirds levelled just after the hour mark as Salisbury skipper Sido Jombati put the ball into his own net whilst attempting to clear a cross.
Salisbury regained the lead on sixty seven minutes through Elliott-Wheeler with a rasping effort.
On seventy four minutes the Bluebird again drew level with a goal from Tom Mehew.
Salisbury again took the lead five minutes later through Hedges.
Hedges then saw his eighty second minute shot deflected behind for a fruitless corner.
Four minutes later Will Dawes was fouled on the edge of the area; though many Bluebirds fands in the crowd thought it was inside the box, he took the resulting free kick himself and Aziaya just managed to get his fingers to the shot.
In stoppage time Hedges almost added a fourth for the hosts.
