Chippenham bowed out of a cup competition at the first hurdle for the third time this season, beaten by lower league opposition, albeit on this occasion they fielded a team sprinkled with academy players.

The first chance fell to the Whites on six minutes when from a corner Yemi Odubade’s headed effort was saved by Will Henry.

Salisbury scored the winning goal three minutes later when Henry’s miss hit clearance fell to a Whites player and the ball was played forward to Sam Ashton to slot home.

Henry then redeemed himself as he thwarted Sioni Benham whose attempt to round the keeper failed.

Chippenham’s first chance came midway through the half when Harry Warwick was fouled in the area but the ensuing Dan Griffiths penalty was saved by Patrick O’Flaherty.

An Alefe Santos low shot was also saved by the home custodian.

God work from Lawal Oulwasegun ended with Harrison Lea’s shot being deflected behind.

As the Bluebirds continued to look for an equaliser Ethan Hill found Griffiths who volleyed just wide.

On thirty seven minutes Warwick was through on goal but his initial shot was blocked and he hit the rebound wide.

The second half saw far fewer chances as Joel Smedley replaced the injured Callum Gunner. The only Bluebird chance of note saw substitute Danny Greenslade’s free kick fail to hit the target.

Chippenham: Will Henry, Harrison Lea (Danny Greenslade 67), Kieran Parselle, Ethan Hill, Langdon Golding, Lawal Owlwasegun, Callum Gunner (Joel Smedley 46), Cameron Hargreaves, Alefe Santos, Harry Warwick, Dan Griffiths subs not used: Luke Russe, Joe Hanks, Noel Coppin
