MATCH REPORT: Slough Town 6-1 Chippenham Town | National League South | Friday 7th April 2023

Published: at 3:24pm

Chippenham’s run of fifteen unbeaten games came to an abrupt end as their seventeenth match in fifty five days caught up with them; probably not helped by a 1 p.m. kick off for this Good Friday game.

The home side opened at a blistering pace and took the lead after just two minutes as Gabe George’s cross deflected to George Alexander who notched his first goal for the Rebels.

Three minutes later Elliot Benyon’s header was superbly tipped over by Will Henry and from that resulting corner Benyon hit the side netting.

On seven minutes Henry dived to save another Alexander shot.

On twelve minutes Matt Lench failed in an attempt to lob Henry.

Shane Bush then shot wide before Henry superbly saved Lee Togwell’s shot from the edge of the area and from the resulting corner Benyon headed wide.

On twenty one minutes Jack Jackman shot wide whilst five minutes later Alexander bent home his second of the match after initially losing the ball but it came back to him to curl into the top corner.

A minute before the break Slough’s tenth attempt of the half saw Jackman head wide.

Before the break the Bluebirds won two corners but both proved fruitless.

HALF TIME: Slough Town 2-0 Chippenham Town

After the break Tom Mehew’s shot was blocked.

The Bluebirds continued to press but on fifty minutes Slough broke away and Johnny Goddard found Alexander who scored his hat trick. Two minutes later a free kick on the edge of the area from Slough player-manager Scott Davies hit the side netting.

A Slough corner was then headed against the bar by Togwell. A further corner then saw Henry make a superb one-handed save from Bush.

On sixty five minutes a long ball forward saw the Bluebird defence fail to attack the ball and Alexander was left one on one and he duly hit his fourth.

Slough then saw Lench and Goddard fail to find the target.

The Bluebirds pulled a goal back a quarter of an hour from time as Ed Williams found Alex Bray who turned the ball home.

A minute later substitute Caine Bradbury fired over.

Slough went nap on seventy eight minutes when substitute Alfie Santos lost the ball in midfield and Benyon’s cross found Jackman whose shot squirmed under Henry.

William’s effort from distance on eighty minutes sailed over the bar.

Francis Amartey’s shot then deflected off Mehew and on to the cross bar for a corner from which Benyon headed home Slough’s sixth.

The defeat saw Chippenham concede their first league double of the season.
