MATCH REPORT: Tonbridge Angels 1-1 Chippenham Town | National League South | Saturday 11th January 2025
The Bluebirds left Kent with a deserved draw, their first point at Tonbridge in their last five visits. The recent snow and freezing conditions saw many games in the country called off as this match was played out in very cold conditions on a 3G surface.
A very scrappy opening twenty minutes saw the Angels have the ball in the net on seven minutes but it was disallowed for a foul on Will Henry, whilst two Bluebird chances were ended by the off side flag.
On twenty two minutes Henry did well to save a deflected shot from Sean Shields.
Six minutes later an overhead kick from Trevan Robinson cleared the bar.
Just past the half hour a Shields free kick was met by a header from Scott Wagstaffe but saved by Henry.
Robinson then went down in the area but shouts for a penalty went unanswered.
A third Chippenham attack on thirty six minutes again ended in an off side decision.
The Bluebirds finally created a legitamate effort a minute later but Harry Parsons’ shot was off target.
The Bluebirds created a good chance on forty minutes but Tom Mehew dragged his shot wide.
A Chippenham free kick three minutes before the break saw Luke Haines connect but the ball deflected behind off a defender.
The corner was only partly cleared and crossed back in leading to a thunderous volley from Mehew to open the scoring.
In stoppage time Parsons found Mehew inside the six yard box but he unfortunately shot wide.
HALF TIME: Tonbridge Angels 0-1 Chippenham Town
Tonbridge levelled after fifty eight minutes as Wagstaffe’s cross was headed back across goal for Crossley Lema to score.
On seventy four minutes Tonbridge substitute Jeremy Santos’ shot went over the bar.
Six minutes later Charlie Pegrum’s effort also went high, before substitute Gianluca Botti shot straight at Henry.
Three minutes from time Parsons’ shot from distance was easily held whilst Joe Andrews found Leone Gravata whose effort was blocked.
In stoppage time a Mehew shot was blocked with claims for a penalty being waved away, and a Haines effort was also blocked.
