MATCH REPORT: Tonbridge Angels 2-0 Chippenham Town | National League South | Sat 22nd October 2022

Published: at 7:01pm

The Bluebirds went down to their fifth consecutive defeat to the Angels, underlining the Kent side’s bogey status, although this run was punctuated by an abandoned game at Tonbridge when fog halted the game with the Bluebirds leading 1-0.

This game saw Chippenham again start the first half hour very slowly although the quarter hour before the break saw them create several chances as they again did in the second half but the lack of a cutting edge saw that a goal in each half was enough for the hosts to continue their hoodoo over the Wiltshire side.

Spencer Hamilton blocked Lewis Collins’ eighth minute shot whilst Jayden Crowhurst scuffed his effort.

Ruben Soares- Junior made an unsuccessful run into the box before he opened the scoring on the quarter hour mark as he fired past Will Henry.

Tonbridge went looking for a second goal as Will Tizzard blocked an effort from Joe Tyrie whilst Craig Brabham-Barrett shot straight at Henry.

On twenty eight minutes Joe Turner’s long range shot was safely pouched by Henry.

Chippenham’s first real chance came just before the half hour as Caine Bradbury’s shot from distance drew a fine save from Jonathan Henly.

As Chippenham came more into the game Bradbury found Tom Mehew but he fired over the bar.

A good move from the Bluebirds then ended with Harvey Greenslade finding Joe Parker but Henly came out on top.

Five minutes before the break another fluent Chippenham move saw Greenslade, Bradbury and Mehew combine with the letter’s shot again being saved by Henry.

In the final minute of the half Bradbury’s long range effort was deflected out from a corner from which Bradbury had another chance but fired over.

HALF TIME: Tonbridge Angels 1-0 Chippenham Town

The start of the second half saw Henry deny Collins whilst at the other end Greenslade headed just wide from Ed Jones’ cross.

Lewis Gard then broke through on the hour mark to fire past Henry to double the lead for the hosts.

On sixty nine minutes Greenslade’s headed effort was turned behind by Henly.

Tonbridge substitute Tommy Flagg was twice off target before Luke Russe’s shot went wide, whilst Bluebird substitute Harrison Minturn’s strong run ended with him shooting wide.

Substitute Tariq-Quaye Addy saw his shot saved by Henry.
