MATCH REPORT: Torquay United 2-1 Chippenham Town | National League South | Tuesday 15th August 2023
A plucky performance from the Bluebirds saw them fall to their first defeat of the season. The Bluebirds were more than holding their own until seventy five minutes when they lost Aaron Amadi-Holloway to injury and then Luke Spokes was sent off for collecting a second yellow card.
Torquay were the first to show on three minutes when skipper Asa Hall could not take advantage of the opportunity as he headed over the bar.
Three minutes later former Bluebird Brad Ash saw his shot blocked whilst at the other end Craig Fasanmade found Jake Evans who shot over.
On sixteen minutes Matt McClure’s shot on the turn was blocked.
On twenty seven minutes Dan Martin’s cross found Jack Stobbs who fired over the bar.
On thirty seven minutes a Torquay corner eventually led to Nat Williams superbly heading off the line.
A further corner two minutes later ended with Ash shooting over.
Five minutes after the break Ash’s shot was cleared off the line for a corner from which the Gulls hit the post.

Torquay took the lead on fifty one minutes as Aaron Jarvis crossed for Ross Marshall to head home.
Chippenham responded immediately as Craig Fasanmade guided home after good work and a cross from McClure.
Just past the hour mark a shot from Caine Bradbury went wide whilst Tyreke Johnson’s shot was blocked.
On sixty five minutes a Torquay corner was headed over by Jarvis.
On seventy three minutes the Bluebirds lost Amadi-Holloway to injury to be replaced by George Abbott.
Torquay immediately replaced centre back and goal scorer Marshall with Sri Lankan international striker Dillon Da Silva.
On seventy eight minutes the Bluebird defence blocked two shots.
On eighty three minutes Chippenham were reduced to ten men as Spokes received his second yellow card for a foul.
From the resulting free kick Lewis Collins failed to hit the target.
A free kick at the other end saw Fasanmade hit the woodwork.
Collins then twice fired over for the hosts sandwiched between this Will King blocked the ball on the line.
The new guidelines to referees saw a minimum of eleven minutes of stoppage time added. In the third of these Ash crossed for Jarvis to hit the winner.
