MATCH REPORT: Torquay United 3-0 Chippenham Town | National League South | Tuesday 3rd September 2024
A whirlwind start by the Devon side saw them take a two goal lead inside the opening ten minutes and then add a third before the break to effectively seal the three points. By contrast the second half was virtually a non event as the Bluebirds managed to keep the hosts out whilst fashioning a couple of chances themselves.
Will Dawes’ sixth minute shot was saved by James Hamon who launched the ball downfield for Ben Seymour who crossed to Lirak Hasani who headed past Will Henry from close in.
Three minutes later Ed Palmer made it two heading home following a Matt Carson corner.
On twelve minutes Luke Spokes’ free kick went over the bar. Midway through the half a fine run by Finn Tonks, on loan from AFC Bournemouth, saw Oscar Threlkeld’s shot come back to Seymour whose shot hit a post.
On twenty six minutes the Bluebirds failed to deal with a Carson cross that went across goal to Tonks whp found former Bath City player Dan Hayfield who fired home from close in.
Just before the half hour former Bluebird Jay Foulston headed wide following a corner.
Striker Cody Cooke, another former Bath player, then saw his shot held by Henry whilst Seymour’s effort was off target.

The first real action of the second half took twenty minutes to materialise as Henry spilled substitute Jaydn Crosbie’s shot but from inside the six yard box Hayfield missed the target.
A minute later Dawes’ shot went high. On seventy two minutes Freddie Grant made a goal saving challenge on Crosbie at the expense of a fruitless corner.
Ten minutes from time another former Bluebird Brad Ash saw his shot deflected behind.
The Bluebirds first corner did not come until the eighty fourth minute and substitute Caine Bradbury’s flag kick saw Luke Haines’ goal bound headed effort blocked.
Two minutes later Henry parried away another effort from Ash. A Chippenham corner routine two minutes from normal time ended with Haines’s shot just going wide. In stoppage time Grant blocked an Ash shot.
