MATCH REPORT: Torquay United 3-2 Chippenham Town | FA Trophy Third Round | Tues 20th Dec 2022

The Bluebirds bowed out of the FA Trophy in an exciting tie as their higher placed opponents came from 0-2 down to win 3-2.

Chippenham took the game to their hosts as Jordan Young’s first minute shot went over whilst two minutes later Luke Russe fired just wide after he had been found by Alfie Santos.

The Bluebirds took the lead on six minutes when a mix-up in the Gulls defence saw Alex Bray find Young who rounded keeper Mark Halstead before finding the net.

A minute later Bray fired just wide as Chippenham continued to dominate.

Midway through the half the Bluebirds doubled their advantage as a long ball from Young found Bray who hit home.

Just before the half hour a Chippenham corner broke down and Torquay broke away as Corie Andrews found Will Goodwin who tapped home to halve the deficit.

On thirty two minutes Harry Parsons picked out Young who was one on one but his shot was blocked by Halstead’s leg.

After the break Torquay came out fired up and quickly forced two fruitless corners.

Shaun Donnellan and Mark Ellis both failed with efforts.

On fifty five minutes Young appeared to be fouled in the area but nothing was given and the Devon side broke away again to equalise through Stephen Wearne.

Three minutes later the Bluebirds were caught out again as a third breakaway saw substitute Dillon de Silva cross for Weare to find the net again.

Two minutes later Weare spurned the chance of a personal hat trick.

On seventy one minutes substitute Joe Parker saw his shot blocked by the home defence.

In stoppage time Parsons was left one on one with the keeper but was narrowly wide.
